My rod is awesome. Thanks Mud Dog Rods. I wanted a very sensitive tip for jigging tungsten jigs for crappies and to be able to see and feel the bite, but with a lot of back bone because on the main lake I fish it could be a 15" inch crappie or a 40" northern. And honestly, I have never seen a rod perform like this rod. JT custom rods couldn't compare to this one. After seeing the Mud Dog Rod in action I actually sold my JT and will only run Mud Dog Rods. They're durable, very nice workmanship and the owner, Dan is a great guy to work with. I am not the average fisherman either, I own and run Andy's Fish House Rentals in Southwest MN. I do quite a few guided trips and spend countless hours on open and hardwater.

To be honest, I was a bit skeptical about custom rods being that much better than a store bought rod for the price difference. After working with Dan, getting to feel different rod blanks and discussing what I was looking for, we found the right length and action that I was after. Getting to pick the components that went into the rod build to get exactly what I was looking for made me realize how much I used to settle on a store bought rod. Once I had the finished product in my hand, I could easily feel the difference. Finally being able to get it to the ice, the split grip allowed for a great fit and better feel for my fishing style. I was convinced I needed another. First rod being for walleye, I needed a panfish rod. This time around I opted for a 3D printed handle with a carbon blank. WOW. The sensitivity transfer in that combo was unlike anything I had felt. My rod box now only has custom rods in it. Mud Dog Rods was great to work with and I have and would highly recommend checking him out for a rod.

I contacted Dan at Mud Dog Rods because I wanted a totally unique ice fishing rod. That being said, I am an avid golfer, so I wanted it with a golf putter grip for the handle. I forwarded this idea to Dan, and he knew exactly what to do. I wanted this rod for primarily walleye fishing, but I wanted to still be able to see the bite so I could use it as a pan fish rod as well. The coloring and just the major attention to detail blew me away when I saw the finished product. Once I got it out on the ice, it was so clear to me why custom rods are better than store bought. Dan matched me up with the perfect amount of backbone, mixed with the right amount of tip sensitivity. If you want a 100% custom rod, Mud Dog Rods is the place to go.
